The WestJet Group has officially completed the integration of Sunwing Airlines, marking the end of a two-year process focused on enhancing connectivity and delivering greater value to Canadian travelers.
Alexis von Hoensbroech, WestJet Group CEO, called the milestone a “complex but transformative journey,” noting that consolidating two airlines—Swoop in 2024 and now Sunwing—within two years required careful coordination across all parts of the business.
WestJet acquired Sunwing in May 2023, uniting two of Canada’s leading travel brands. The integration, finalized on May 29, 2025, supports WestJet’s goal to lead the Canadian sun and leisure travel market by providing more affordable and accessible options. This move also strengthens the nation’s travel and tourism sector during a critical period.
With the integration complete, WestJet now operates all aircraft under a single Air Operator Certificate (AOC). This includes 16 planes from Swoop, nine from the former Lynx Air, and 18 from Sunwing Airlines. A reconfiguration of these aircraft to standardize cabin layouts is underway and expected to finish by the end of 2025.
WestJet’s unified fleet of 150 Boeing 737 aircraft will offer passengers a consistent onboard experience with a wider selection of seat options—Premium, Economy, Extended Comfort, and UltraBasic—allowing travelers to choose based on comfort and budget. This approach reflects WestJet’s dedication to meeting evolving passenger needs with flexibility and reliable network service.
