EasyJet has announced plans to open a new base at Newcastle Airport in March 2026, bringing more flight options and affordable fares to the North East while creating significant job opportunities.
The new three-aircraft base is expected to support 1,200 jobs across the UK, including 130 direct positions for pilots, flight crews, and engineers. This expansion aims to strengthen EasyJet’s presence in the region and boost the local economy.

This investment will offer greater connectivity with new routes, add hundreds of thousands of low-cost seats, and bring a significant boost to the local economy by creating high-quality jobs and attracting more visitors to the region. Newcastle Airport already contributes over £1 billion annually in Gross Value Added, and this base will deepen our partnership with EasyJet.”
Easy Jet plans to reveal new routes and holiday packages for summer 2026 next week. Currently, the airline offers flights from Newcastle to popular destinations including Alicante, Amsterdam, Geneva, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Paris, Bristol, and Belfast. The new base will expand the airline’s network across the North of England and Southern Scotland, enhancing connectivity outside London.
This development follows EasyJet’s recent base openings at London Southend and Birmingham International Airport in March 2024. The airline continues to focus on growth within the UK, its largest market, which accounts for 56% of its passengers. EasyJet also added seven aircraft to its UK fleet this summer, supporting what it describes as its largest-ever UK flying program.
