Taiwan’s Starlux Airlines has announced a significant fleet expansion with an order for 10 additional Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, reinforcing its ambitions to serve the U.S. East Coast and enter the European market. The latest commitment brings the carrier’s total A350-1000 orders to 18, with deliveries scheduled to begin later this year and continue through 2031.
Strategic Fleet Growth
Starlux CEO Glenn Chai revealed the purchase at the Paris Air Show, outlining a delivery timeline that includes five A350-1000s in 2026, two in 2027, and the remaining aircraft from 2031 onward. The long-haul jets will complement the airline’s existing all-Airbus fleet, which currently consists of 10 A350-900s, five A330-900neos, and 13 A321neos, along with 10 A350F freighters on order.
Network Expansion Plans
While 40% of Starlux’s capacity currently serves popular Japanese routes from Taiwan, the new A350-1000s will enable the airline to target high-demand markets in the U.S. and Europe. Chai confirmed that Phoenix will become the airline’s fifth U.S. destination in early 2026, joining its existing North American network. Additionally, Starlux is finalizing regulatory approvals for its inaugural European route, though the specific city remains undisclosed.
Strengthening Trans-Pacific and Trans-Continental Reach
The A350-1000’s extended range and fuel efficiency make it an ideal platform for Starlux’s growth strategy, allowing the airline to connect Taiwan with key business and leisure markets. The aircraft’s premium cabin configurations will also enhance Starlux’s competitive position against regional rivals, offering passengers superior comfort on long-haul flights.
Industry Positioning and Future Prospects
Starlux’s latest order underscores its commitment to becoming a major player in international aviation, leveraging Airbus’s advanced widebody technology to support its expansion. The airline’s disciplined growth approach—balancing fleet acquisitions with strategic route development—positions it well to capture post-pandemic demand for premium travel in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
