Taiwan-based China Airlines (CAL) has announced a strategic partnership with global cargo pricing and booking platforms, WebCargo by Freightos and cargo.one. This collaboration introduces Taiwan’s first integrated online cargo service, enabling customers to search capacity, receive instant pricing, and book cargo space seamlessly through a single platform.
These advanced cargo booking systems have been widely adopted internationally for years. China Airlines is pioneering their use within the Taiwanese airline sector, with services launching on June 2 via WebCargo and June 10 through cargo.one. The initial rollout will cover key markets including the US, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. Freight forwarders will benefit from quick access to available cargo capacity and real-time quotes, simplifying the booking process and boosting operational efficiency. China Airlines plans to expand these services domestically in Taiwan and broaden the collaboration with its platform partners in the near future.
With extensive experience handling diverse cargo types—ranging from food and clothing to educational and recreational goods—China Airlines aims to leverage the internet connectivity of these platforms to tap into new markets and customer segments worldwide. This move will also allow the airline to analyze booking trends through big data, tailor new products to evolving demand, and ultimately increase cargo volumes. China Airlines projects the platforms will boost cargo throughput by nearly 100 tonnes monthly while reducing labor costs and enhancing supply chain efficiency.
Committed to corporate sustainability and operational stability, China Airlines continues to enhance its cargo fleet. All ten fuel-efficient Boeing 777F freighters are now in service alongside eight high-capacity 747F aircraft, creating synergistic benefits. In 2024, the airline ordered four additional 777-8F freighters, matching the configuration of the 777F, its flagship freighter model. The new digital booking platforms will complement this fleet, increasing flexibility, dispatch efficiency, payload capacity, and overall productivity. Additionally, the airline employs PDA mobile devices for apron operations, cutting paper use and improving loading accuracy.
China Airlines remains dedicated to strengthening its competitive edge by delivering reliable, efficient, and innovative cargo services to meet global market demands.
