EasyJet to Reopen Newcastle Base in 2026

by Grace

EasyJet has announced plans to reestablish a base at Newcastle Airport in March 2026, marking its return since closing bases during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. The low-cost carrier had previously shut its operations at Newcastle, Southend, and Stansted due to pandemic-related travel restrictions.

Following the reopening of its Southend base earlier this year, Easy Jet will station three aircraft at Newcastle, creating around 130 direct jobs for pilots, cabin crew, and engineers.

Currently, EasyJet operates year-round flights from Newcastle to Amsterdam, Belfast International, Bristol, and Paris Charles de Gaulle, alongside seasonal services to destinations including Alicante, Geneva, Lyon, Malaga, and Palma de Mallorca. The airline plans to announce new routes and package holidays for summer 2026 in the coming weeks.

Kenton Jarvis, EasyJet’s CEO, emphasized the UK’s significance to the airline: “Opening a new base at Newcastle reflects strong demand for our flights and holidays. This move strengthens our position as the UK’s largest leisure airline, creates skilled jobs, and supports vital regional economic growth. Holidays remain a priority for UK consumers, and with our extensive short-haul network and easyJet holidays, we can offer greater choice and value for travelers in the North East and beyond.”

Newcastle Airport recently enhanced its passenger experience by opening a new 1,100 square meter Aspire lounge, featuring three levels of service, including The Suite by Aspire with premium amenities such as welcome drinks and table service.
