Turkish Airlines and Icelandair have announced the expansion of their existing codeshare partnership, enhancing connectivity between Turkey and Iceland as well as extending their global reach.
Since launching their partnership in June 2023, the two flag carriers have collaborated under a codeshare agreement to offer passengers smoother travel options. Building on this, Icelandair will begin direct flights between Reykjavik and İstanbul from September 5, 2025, operating twice weekly during the winter season. These flights will be integrated into the agreement, allowing Turkish Airlines to apply its marketing code on Icelandair’s operations.
In exchange, Icelandair will add its marketing code on select Turkish Airlines flights beyond Istanbul, covering destinations across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. This expanded cooperation, announced at the 81st IATA Annual General Meeting in New Delhi, connects Icelandair’s transatlantic network with Turkish Airlines’ extensive global routes, unlocking new travel opportunities for both business and leisure passengers.
Turkish Airlines CEO Bilal Ekşi described the partnership as a “strategic alignment,” emphasizing that the integration opens new traffic flows and enhances connectivity between Iceland, Türkiye, and other regions. Icelandair CEO Bogi Nils Bogason highlighted the shared commitment to service excellence and growth through expanded network integration.
In a related move, Turkish Airlines and TAP Air Portugal are also expanding their codeshare agreement. The extension includes new destinations such as Brazil, Morocco, Qatar, and Mauritius, alongside Türkiye’s popular summer spots Dalaman and Bodrum. This expansion aims to broaden travel options between Türkiye and Portugal, benefiting tourism and commercial ties.
Bilal Ekşi expressed enthusiasm about deepening the long-standing partnership with TAP Air Portugal, underscoring the enhanced flexibility and travel choices the new deal offers. TAP Air Portugal CEO Luís Rodrigues emphasized the importance of smart partnerships to extend their network eastward, offering passengers increased global travel options.
Together, these expanded codeshare agreements mark a significant step in strengthening Turkish Airlines’ global connectivity while providing travelers with greater convenience and access to diverse destinations.
