The Lufthansa Group is accelerating its integration of ITA Airways by expanding their codeshare agreement to include long-haul routes, beginning July 1, 2025. The move will allow customers to book combined flights on Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines with onward connections operated by ITA Airways, all under a single booking.
The new arrangement will enhance connectivity for travelers across Europe and beyond. For instance, passengers can fly with Lufthansa from Frankfurt or Munich and connect in Rome with ITA Airways to long-haul destinations such as Bangkok, Jeddah, and Riyadh. Similarly, Brussels Airlines will offer connections from Brussels to Cairo, and Austrian Airlines will offer flights via Rome to Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
Baggage will be checked through to the final destination, providing a more streamlined experience. Additional codeshare routes to Africa and Asia are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of the Lufthansa Group, said, “By expanding our codeshare flights—now also for long-haul connections—we are offering our airlines’ guests a seamless and consistent travel experience more than ever before.”
He emphasized that travelers will benefit from coordinated schedules across all Lufthansa Group hubs, unified booking and check-in processes, and full access to frequent flyer benefits. Passengers can continue to earn and redeem miles through the Miles & More and Volare loyalty programs.
This announcement follows a successful rollout of more than 100 codeshare routes within Europe and Italy earlier this year. Once fully implemented, ITA Airways customers will gain access to over 250 Lufthansa Group codeshare destinations, significantly increasing travel options and convenience for international passengers.
