Singapore Airlines’ budget arm, Scoot, will assume some routes previously operated by Qantas Airways’ Singapore-based budget carrier, Jetstar Asia, which is set to cease operations on July 31, a Singapore Airlines spokesperson confirmed Friday.
Qantas announced the closure earlier this week, citing rising supplier costs, high airport fees, and intense regional competition as key factors behind the decision.
Pending regulatory approval and discussions with partners, Scoot plans to launch new flights from Singapore to Okinawa, Japan, and Labuan Bajo, Indonesia—routes exclusively served by Jetstar Asia until now, the spokesperson added.
Additionally, Singapore Airlines will increase flight frequencies on other affected routes, including services from Singapore to Manila, Colombo, and Jakarta. Details of the updated flight schedules will be released soon.
In response to the closure, Singapore Airlines has also established channels to help Jetstar Asia staff quickly apply for jobs within the broader airline group.
