Strengthening its presence in the Indian market, Vietnam Airlines has launched direct flight services between Hyderabad and Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital city, beginning May 7. The new route marks the airline’s fourth Indian gateway after Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, underscoring its strategic expansion and commitment to enhancing air connectivity between India and Vietnam.
The non-stop service will operate thrice weekly—on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays—offering greater convenience for travelers in southern India.
An inaugural ceremony was held at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) to celebrate the first flight’s arrival. The event featured traditional welcome rituals, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and distribution of souvenirs to passengers, highlighting the airline’s signature hospitality.
As part of the celebrations, Vietnam Airlines also hosted a luncheon at ITC Kohenur, gathering travel agents and key stakeholders from the tourism and aviation sectors. The event aimed to foster industry collaboration and strengthen business ties in the region.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Nguyen Trung Hieu, Country Manager – India, Vietnam Airlines, said, “India remains a crucial growth market for us. We’re excited to begin direct flights from Hyderabad, one of India’s most dynamic and fastest-growing cities. With its rich heritage, strong technology sector, and cosmopolitan appeal, Hyderabad is a vital southern hub. This new connection builds on our operations in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, and furthers our mission to improve connectivity between India and Vietnam.”
Vietnam Airlines, the national flag carrier and a SkyTeam Alliance member, is known for its modern fleet and award-winning service. The new route is expected to deepen bilateral tourism and business ties while offering world-class travel comfort and efficiency.
Supporting the airline’s India expansion, Mr. Abhishek Goyal, CEO and Executive Director of Aeroprime Group, said, “As Vietnam Airlines’ General Sales Agent in India, we are proud to support this strategic growth. Hyderabad is a valuable addition to our network, and we believe this route will unlock new opportunities for tourism, trade, and cultural exchange between the two countries.”
The Vietnamese capital of Hanoi is renowned for its blend of historic charm and modern vibrancy, with attractions like the Old Quarter, ancient temples, and a renowned street food scene. It also serves as a convenient gateway to destinations such as Ha Long Bay, Sapa, and Ninh Binh.
Mr. Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL), expressed enthusiasm about the route launch: “Vietnam is among the top emerging travel destinations for Indian tourists. This direct connectivity will cater to growing travel demand from South India and offer seamless connections for passengers. It also promises to boost tourism and strengthen socio-economic ties between our regions.”
Vietnam’s simplified visa procedures—including pre-approved visa-on-arrival and e-visa options—are expected to further support Indian outbound travel.
The new Hyderabad–Hanoi route positions Vietnam Airlines as a key player in bridging South and Southeast Asia, enhancing regional cooperation through increased travel, tourism, and business engagement.
