The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has forecasted that Chinese-made aircraft will play a significant role in boosting the aviation sector, offering a competitive edge in the global market.
Speaking on Tuesday in Nairobi during the IATA Ground Handling Conference, Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General, emphasized the potential of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) in producing modern and efficient airplanes. He noted that these aircraft present a viable alternative to the models currently in use worldwide.
“Chinese-made aircraft are expected to introduce more competition in the airplane market, which will provide the airline industry with more affordable acquisition options,” Walsh explained in an interview with Xinhua.
Currently, Chinese-manufactured planes are primarily operating in China and neighboring Asian countries that accept Chinese aviation certifications, Walsh added.
The three-day conference in Nairobi brought together representatives from airlines and aviation policymakers from across the globe to discuss strategies for strengthening the global aviation ecosystem.
