JetBlue Airways has officially launched its first-ever route to Honduras, introducing daily nonstop service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and San Pedro Sula’s Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport (SAP). The move marks a milestone in the airline’s Latin American expansion, as the region now makes up over one-third of JetBlue’s total capacity.
“This new route strengthens our presence in Central America and underscores our commitment to the region,” said Daniel Shurz, JetBlue’s Senior Vice President of Network, Revenue, and Enterprise Planning. “We’re proud to offer New York travelers a new gateway to the culture and beauty of Honduras, while helping friends and relatives stay connected through the award-winning JetBlue experience.”
Strategic Expansion into Central America
JetBlue is now the only U.S. airline offering daily nonstop flights between New York and San Pedro Sula. The addition reflects the carrier’s strategy to expand service in underserved international markets while supporting its long-term goal of growing operations in the U.S. Northeast.
San Pedro Sula, located in northern Honduras, is a thriving commercial and cultural hub. Its proximity to the country’s Caribbean coastline, lush rainforests, and Mayan archaeological sites—like the ancient ruins of Copán—makes it an attractive destination for both tourism and commerce.
Honduras Celebrates New Connection to the U.S.
Local officials in Honduras welcomed the new service, highlighting the broader significance of the route for the country’s infrastructure and global integration.
“We welcome this new direct route to New York and celebrate it as a significant step in strengthening Honduras’s air connectivity,” said Malcolm Stufkens, Executive Secretary of Honduras’ National Airport Service. “The arrival of JetBlue not only expands the options available to our citizens and visitors but also underscores the growing confidence in Honduras as a key destination for commerce, tourism, and investment.”
A Growing Global Network
JetBlue’s entry into Honduras reinforces its Visiting Friends and Relatives (VFR) strategy, which focuses on high-demand routes connecting diasporas and international communities. With this launch, JetBlue continues building a robust transcontinental network. By the end of 2025, the airline plans to serve more than 40 international destinations, including cities across Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe.
This route further demonstrates JetBlue’s commitment to offering affordable, quality service in areas traditionally underserved by U.S. carriers. Travelers from both countries will now benefit from a more direct and convenient travel option, connecting New York’s diverse international population with one of Central America’s most vibrant regions.
