Gulf Air has signed a lease agreement with Singapore-based BOC Aviation for nine new Airbus A320neo-family aircraft, marking a significant fleet expansion for Bahrain’s national carrier. The deal includes three A321neos and six A320neos, all powered by CFM International Leap-1A engines, with deliveries scheduled over the next three years beginning in 2025.
Fleet Modernization Strategy
The leased aircraft will support Gulf Air’s ongoing fleet renewal program, replacing older models with more fuel-efficient alternatives. CEO Jeffrey Goh emphasized the new jets will enhance passenger experience while supporting the airline’s operational modernization goals. The A321neo’s extended range capabilities may also facilitate network expansion to medium-haul destinations from Bahrain International Airport.

BOC Aviation’s three-year delivery schedule provides Gulf Air with flexible capacity growth aligned with market demand recovery in the Middle East. Engine Selection Significance
The choice of CFM Leap-1A engines for all nine aircraft maintains commonality with Gulf Air’s existing fleet, simplifying maintenance operations and crew training. While Gulf Air hasn’t specified routes for the new aircraft, industry analysts suggest the A321neos could enable nonstop service to secondary European and Asian cities currently requiring smaller aircraft or connections.
