Hong Kong Airlines has announced the cancellation of flights between Hong Kong and the Japanese cities of Kagoshima and Kumamoto, citing sluggish travel demand as the primary reason. Additionally, the airline will reduce flight frequencies on its Hong Kong–Nagoya route.
According to the airline’s official website, only one weekly flight to Nagoya is scheduled for July and August, with no flights currently planned for September.
Passengers affected by these changes are offered options to rebook flights to alternative destinations including other cities in Japan, as well as mainland China, Taipei, Bangkok, and Da Nang. Those who choose to cancel their bookings will receive compensation in the form of travel vouchers.
The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and pledged full support to assist passengers in making alternative travel arrangements.
The drop in travel demand is reportedly linked to renewed public concerns following a resurfaced prophecy from the manga “The Future I Saw,” which predicts a major earthquake striking Japan this July. This has led to widespread postponements and cancellations of tourist visits.
