Qantas is significantly boosting its Australia-New Zealand services, introducing Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flights on the Brisbane-Auckland route starting August. The expansion includes new routes and increased frequencies ahead of the peak holiday travel season.
Dreamliner Deployment on Key Route
The Brisbane-Auckland service will launch with three weekly 787 flights before transitioning to daily operations in October. This marks Qantas’ second Trans-Tasman Dreamliner route after Sydney-Auckland, which currently operates as part of the airline’s New York service.
New Routes and Network Growth
Qantas will introduce two new Trans-Tasman connections: Perth-Auckland and Adelaide-Auckland. The Adelaide service represents a milestone as Qantas resumes international flights from South Australia’s capital after more than a decade-long absence.
Peak Season Capacity Boost
The expansion positions Qantas as the market leader in Australia-New Zealand connectivity during the busy year-end travel period. “We’ll have the most frequency between Australia and New Zealand when demand is strongest,” said Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace.
Comprehensive Network Enhancement
The Trans-Tasman growth complements Qantas’ broader New Zealand strategy, including ongoing refurbishment of its Auckland lounge and Jetstar’s planned launch of three new routes. The moves come amid strong recovery in Trans-Tasman travel demand post-pandemic.
Fleet Utilization Strategy
The 787 deployment allows Qantas to offer premium cabins and improved passenger comfort on key business and leisure routes. The aircraft’s efficiency also supports the airline’s sustainability goals while meeting growing market demand.
With these changes, Qantas strengthens its position in one of the world’s most competitive aviation markets, offering passengers more choice and premium options for Trans-Tasman travel. The expansion reflects confidence in continued growth in business and tourism traffic between the two countries.
